The OLLI Opera Special Interest Group (SIG) called Opera-tunity and several other OLLI friends enjoyed a pre-show talk prior to enjoying “An Evening with Gilbert and Sullivan” at the Straz on Sunday afternoon, July 29th.
Pre-show talks are scheduled prior to matinee performances of Opera Tampa productions and provide information that enhances the experience of the opera ahead. (More…)
As a birder, I have had many opportunities for wonderful trips overseas. This past June was probably the most unforgettable experience of my life.
I do my birding travel with Cheepers! Birding on a Budget. This year a trip to Uganda, with a gorilla trek as an optional experience, was offered. There was no way I’d pass up an opportunity to see gorillas in the wild. I spent months reading everything I could find. I posted questions on TripAdvisor and got marvelous tips and enthusiastic descriptions. I bought the thick garden gloves recommended, wore good, strong hiking boots, and made sure my walking stick was ready. (More…)
You may travel far and never know what’s under your own nose. I had to go halfway around the world to take pictures at the night market in Hong Kong. But did you know that Tampa has a night market of its own? Did I? Not until I started looking for likely places for the new OLLI Shutterbugs SIG to go shooting. We held our organizational meeting on Wednesday, May 9, and on Thursday night, May 10, six of us were rendezvousing at a truly unprepossessing spot near Ybor City: the back entrance to the loading yard of Coppertail Brewing.
