Over the years, I’ve dabbled in oil painting, knitting, needlepoint in its many varieties, and I currently enjoy my passion for writing. I have always been fascinated by what can be done with wood, particularly wood carving. Having had an epiphany that I was hanging around in my head too much, I decided to give this craft a try. There are many advantages to being an OLLI member, and several current members are enjoying one of them now.
It’s OLLI-USF’s “Behind the Scenes” and Performance Series: an opportunity to see a marvelous performance at the STRAZ (aka the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts) and enjoy an exclusive pre-show discussion with a knowledgeable guide. (More…)
The OLLI Opera Special Interest Group (SIG) called Opera-tunity and several other OLLI friends enjoyed a pre-show talk prior to enjoying “An Evening with Gilbert and Sullivan” at the Straz on Sunday afternoon, July 29th.

I posted questions on TripAdvisor and got marvelous tips and enthusiastic descriptions. I bought the thick garden gloves recommended, wore good, strong hiking boots, and made sure my walking stick was ready. (More…)

Have you ever taken an OLLI class and wished you could continue the discussion? Writing a blog post connects you with others who share your passions.
Blogs are similar to traditional journal entries, but instead of keeping your thoughts under lock and key, they are published to share with anyone. A blog, which is a combination of web and log, has become a popular way to share our experiences and passions with a wider community. (More…)
Fannie Farmer isn’t actually my friend, but if you are a home cook or know something about cooking in America, this should get your attention.
In my mother’s kitchen, when she baked a pie and it emerged from the oven bubbling with juice, she would wonder aloud, “Would it meet Fannie Farmer’s standards?” Her Fannie Farmer Cookbook was the reference for all good meals in our home. (More…)
